Spendesk

Spend management · Berlin · Feb 2023 — Nov 2025

Spendesk is a spend management platform for company finance and accounting teams. I owned the wire transfer system — the part that actually moves the money — first for the UK market, then across a shifting set of banking partners in the EU.

  1. A wire transfer system for the UK

Planned and executed end to end, from design through rollout. It ran at 99.9% uptime, and the transactions it replaced stopped being something customers had to chase.

  2. Banking partner migrations

Moved multiple banking partners across EU and UK markets onto the existing wire transfer infrastructure, without interrupting the payments already running through it.

  3. Invoice and expense management

Core features on the systems finance teams open every day.

  1. Load testing, as a practice

Led the initiative to introduce load testing strategies across the organisation rather than leaving it as one team's habit. Knowing what breaks first is cheaper to learn on purpose.

  2. Invoicing that earns

Core invoicing features aimed directly at revenue.

Payments are unglamorous until they fail. Most of the engineering here is not the happy path — it is reconciliation, partner-specific edge cases and what the system does at three in the morning when a bank stops answering.
